The Grand Canyon had been on my bucket list for as long as I can remember and when I saw it for the first time I was totally stunned! There are not enough words to describe that first view. I had a lump in my throat, I was covered in goosebumps and the tears ran down my cheeks. The canyon is so vast , the way that it is formed, the changing colours of the rocks, it was just gob-smacking! I will never forget that sight for as long as I live.

What states are considered the West Coast?

Strictly speaking, the West Coast is California, Oregon and Washington (the states that border the Pacific Ocean).

However, many West Coast America holiday packages also include nearby inland highlights. Typically, these will be Nevada (Las Vegas) and Arizona (Grand Canyon), because they fit naturally into the most popular touring itineraries.

When is the best time of year to visit the West Coast?

It depends on your route, but West Coast tours can work well across multiple seasons.

If you travel in springtime, you can expect plenty of daylight for sightseeing, with warmer temperatures building in desert locations such as Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon region, while coastal cities such as San Francisco can feel cooler.

In early summer, the days are longer, and temperatures are typically warmer across much of the route, particularly in Arizona and Nevada.

Autumn offers comfortable touring conditions, with a mix of warm days and cooler evenings depending on where you are.

  • Coffee culture is excellent too, and you could try various blends and styles in cafés along the coast.
