Friends and colleagues Sam and Bridie joined our Amalfi Coast tour to discover one of Italy's most iconic destinations. From colourful cliffside towns and scenic boat journeys to authentic Italian cuisine and the fascinating ruins of Pompeii, their week was filled with unforgettable moments. Here, Sam and Bridie share the highlights of their postcard-perfect escape along the stunning Amalfi Coast.
One of the highlights of the trip was the fantastic group. There were 28 of us, with a real mix of ages and backgrounds, and everyone got on brilliantly. Although many guests were travelling as couples, there were also solo travellers, and it never felt like anyone was left out. By the end of the week we'd all shared meals, stories and plenty of laughs, with many of us still keeping in touch after returning home.
The hotel in Minori was another standout. Tucked away along a charming, cobbled street just moments from the beach, it blended traditional Italian character with modern comforts. Every room had its own unique style, the service was exceptional and nothing ever felt like too much trouble. The staff even surprised us with a homemade lemon cake and birthday celebrations during our stay, before giving the whole group a farewell cake on our final evening. It was those thoughtful touches that made the experience feel so personal.
If there's one thing we weren’t prepared for, it was just how incredible the food would be. Of course, there was plenty of pasta, but the menus introduced us to authentic regional dishes that we might never have ordered ourselves. Every evening we enjoyed beautifully prepared three-course dinners with a choice of meat, fish or vegetarian dishes, giving us the chance to sample local flavours throughout the week.
Outside of the hotel we made the most of every opportunity to eat like the locals. Fresh seafood, homemade lasagne in Sorrento, bruschetta, mussels, lemon pasta and creamy risottos all featured, while the local wines were just as memorable.
One meal, however, stood above the rest.
High in the hills above the coast near Ravello, we enjoyed a family-hosted lunch overlooking breathtaking scenery. Fresh bread, local olive oil, salads, homemade dishes and locally produced wine were shared around the table before finishing with a glass of limoncello. It perfectly captured everything we loved about the Amalfi Coast.
One of my favourite things about this itinerary was how often we travelled by boat.
Rather than simply driving between destinations, arriving in to Amalfi from the water gave us an entirely different perspective. Watching the colourful buildings rise from the coastline was one of those moments where everyone quietly took in the view.
Capri was another unforgettable day. We wandered through beautiful gardens, enjoyed panoramic viewpoints, explored charming streets filled with boutiques and cafés, and simply soaked up the glamorous atmosphere. Although we could easily have spent longer there, it gave us a wonderful taste of the island and left us wanting to return.
Pompeii exceeded every expectation. It's far bigger than we imagined, and walking through its remarkably preserved streets really brings history to life. Our local guide grew up nearby and shared fascinating stories that made the ancient city feel incredibly real. Rather than simply looking at ruins, we found ourselves imagining everyday life before Mount Vesuvius changed everything. It became one of the most memorable historical sites we've ever visited.
If we had one extra day, we'd spend it in Sorrento. The lively streets were filled with musicians, cafés and colourful shops selling everything from handmade ceramics to local limoncello. We spent hours wandering through hidden alleyways, sampling authentic Italian food and simply enjoying the atmosphere.
It perfectly balanced the glamour of the Amalfi Coast with the relaxed charm that makes southern Italy so special.
One thing that genuinely surprised me was that the scenery never seemed to end. Whether we were winding through mountain roads, cruising across the sea or simply looking out of the coach window, every journey offered another spectacular view. Even the transfers became part of the experience because there was always something beautiful to look at.
It also turned out to be much more affordable than we’d expected. Considering the Amalfi Coast's glamorous reputation, meals, drinks and souvenirs were all surprisingly reasonably priced, making it easy to enjoy local restaurants and cafés throughout the week.
Having our holiday director on hand made such a difference. From sharing local recommendations and fascinating insights to making sure everyone felt included, they created a relaxed atmosphere where guests could enjoy the holiday at their own pace. Whether someone wanted sightseeing suggestions, a quiet café or practical advice, nothing ever seemed too much trouble. It meant we could simply enjoy ourselves while everything else was taken care of.
What we loved most about this holiday was the variety. In just one week we experienced the glamour of Capri, the beauty of Amalfi, the charm of Ravello, the history of Pompeii and the vibrant atmosphere of Sorrento all while staying in one seaside town.
This tour offers the perfect balance of sightseeing, authentic local experiences, delicious food, coastal scenery and time to simply soak up la dolce vita.
