Tour Overview

Croatia’s Dubrovnik Riviera is a place of contrasts – honey-coloured medieval walls rise above turquoise water, and quiet fishing villages are within easy reach of grand baroque towns. On this eight-day holiday you’ll be based in the pretty harbour town of Cavtat where there is plenty time to explore at a gentle pace and relax in one of the charming waterfront cafés.

Dubrovnik's Old Town reveals itself as somewhere far more layered than its reputation suggests, you’ll discover the highlights that sit within the city walls and visit a women's cooperative that keeps the region's craft traditions alive. Across the border in Montenegro's Bay of Kotor, mountains appear to rise straight out of the water around a walled town that feels a world away from its Croatian neighbour. Closer to Cavtat, the Konavle countryside slows things down, its olive groves, family-run mills and village customs offer a glimpse of a rural pace of life that has changed little in generations. With three full days at leisure and a beautiful coastal setting, it is the perfect way to enjoy southern Croatia at a comfortable, unhurried pace.

The perfect mix of included excursions and time to explore at your own pace - will include moderate walking.

Tour Itinerary

Hotel Cavtat

Day 1 UK to Dubrovnik

Today we start our tour with a flight to Dubrovnik. On arrival we’ll transfer to Cavtat, a graceful harbour town along the coast. The road hugs the water for most of the journey with the Adriatic on one site and the hills of the Konavle rising on the other.

Our five-star hotel sits right on the water offering access to two quiet beaches and just a short walk away from the town centre. There’s time to settle in, take in the sea view or wander down to the harbour before we come together this evening for a welcome drink and relaxed dinner in Cavtat.

Dubrovnik

Day 2 Dubrovnik

After breakfast this morning, we head into Dubrovnik - one of the Adriatic's most celebrated historic cities. A local guide will lead us through the Old Town’s narrow streets past honey-colours walls, from the polished limestone of the Stradun, the city’s main promenade that leads to the Rector’s Palace. You’ll take in the city’s grand squares, quiet churches, charming courtyards and views that have remained unchanged for centuries.

From here we’ll visit DEŠA, a women’s cooperative founded in Dubrovnik during the homeland war. What started as a small craft initiative between local women and refugees, has grown into a centre provides victim support while acting as a centre of cultural preservation, keeping skills such as embroidery and lace-making alive.

We’ll stop for lunch in the Old Town before we will take the cable car up to Srd Hill, where the panoramic views stretch out across the city’s terracotta rooftops, the waters of the Adriatic, and on a clear day the Elaphiti Islands.

Day 3 Cavtat - at Leisure

Today is yours to enjoy at your own leisure. You might choose to relax by the sea or make use of the hotel's pools and wellness facilities. If you wish to explore Cavtat further, follow the waterfront promenade to find independent cafes, restaurants, galleries and small shops.

If you prefer to explore more of Dubrovnik, a local boat or taxi will take you there in around twenty minutes.

Kotor

Day 4 Montenegro

This morning we will cross the border into Montenegro for a full day exploring the Bay of Kotor, where limestone peaks rise from calm waters and small stone towns line the shore. Our first stop is the waterside town of Perast, a handsome baroque village built by wealthy sea captains centuries ago, with views out to the two islets of Out Lady of the Rocks and St George.

From here, we take a short boat ride to the UNESCO-listed wall town of Kotor beneath the slopes of Mount Vrmac. A local guide walks us though the charming Old Town to the Cathedral of St Tryphon. Enjoy some time at leisure here - perhaps step into one of the old churches, walk along the city walls or venture along a quiet street to discover a restaurant serving local dishes for lunch.

We return to Cavtat this evening for dinner at the hotel.

Meals included: B,D
Folk music

Day 5 Konavle

Today the tour will showcase the warm hospitality, traditions and slower pace of life in rural, southern Croatia. We head into the Konvale countryside where vineyards, olive groves and stone farmhouses sit beneath the mountains that separate Croatia from its neighbours. In the village of Cilipi, the largest settlement in the region, we’ll watch a performance of Konavle folk music and dance - a custom kept alive as local families pass on their traditions through the generation, with performers often wearing the region's embroidered dress, similar to the needlework we saw at DEŠA a few days earlier.

Afterwards we visit an olive mill learning how the region’s oil is pressed. This is followed by a tasting to allow you to experience and appreciate the local flavours.

We continue to the Ljuta River area, known for its old watermills and clear spring water, to enjoy a leisurely local lunch made from regional produce and seasonal ingredients.

Day 6 Cavtat - at Leisure

Today is yours to spend at your own pace. Relax at the hotel or head into Cavtat to explore further, whether that's a lazy lunch overlooking the harbour or a quiet walk along the seafront. With the week's tour largely behind us, this is a good day to slow right down, perhaps returning to a café or view that caught your eye earlier in the trip.

Meals included: B
Cavtat

Day 7 Cavtat - at Leisure

Enjoy one final day to relax and explore as you wish.

This evening we come together for a special farewell dinner in the countryside outside Cavtat. It's a fitting way to close a week built as much around quiet moments as guided ones and a chance to look back on the trip with the friends we've made along the way.

Meals included: B,D
Cavtat

Day 8 Dubrovnik to UK

After breakfast, we transfer you to the airport for your return flight to the UK, taking one last look at the coastline that's been our backdrop for the week.

Meals included: B
  1. Changing lives through travel

On this holiday you will visit DEŠA, a women’s craft cooperative providing victim support while acting as a centre of cultural preservation. Through selling handicrafts made by women across the country, and providing tourists with the opportunity to learn about traditional costumes, weaving, and cooking, DEŠA is contributing to the sustainable and inclusive development of its communities.
