Kawsaymi Restaurant

Our Travelsphere Cares programme, in partnership with the Planeterra Foundation, supports local projects and social enterprises by helping them earn an income from the tourism industry. We simply donate a portion of the funds from our tours, so it’s great to know that when you travel with us you are helping to change lives and create a positive impact from travel.

Kawsaymi, founded in 2012 by Claudia and her family, is a women-led enterprise that creates jobs and income through its restaurant, embroidery, and seed jewellery. Through it's community restaurant and handicrafts, Kawsaymi celebrates traditional Andean cuisine and Kichwa culture while preserving cultural heritage and ancestral knowledge. The team also runs school workshops on healthy eating and local food, supporting community well-being and cultural identity.

Planeterra partnered with Kawsaymi and provided a grant and strategic support to strengthen their farm-to-table experience and business operations, including funding to improve the 'Old House'.

The impact of tourism

Kawsaymi directly benefits five local people working in the restaurant, and seven families producing handicrafts and supplies. They create jobs for local youth and women through the restaurant and handicrafts, and combines tourism, local business, and social impact for long-term community benefit.

On our Galapagos Island Hopping tour, you will visit the project and learn all about the history of Kawsaymi and the Kichwa culture, and enjoy a lunch in the restaurant with fresh local ingredients.
