Day 1 UK - Munich
Fly to Munich and transfer to your hotel in the Oberammergau area for a two-night stay.
Day 2 Oberammergau & the Passion Play
Today's the day you're going to watch the famous Passion Play. You will transfer to the village of Oberammergau after breakfast. Take a stroll through the historical town and perhaps visit the Oberammergau Museum, where you can discover more about the Passion Play and the region's history of wood carving. Lunch will be served prior to the performance, which starts at 2.30pm, and you will enjoy dinner during the three-hour interval. The Passion Play will finish at around 10.30pm when you will return to your hotel by coach.Meals included: B,L,D
Day 3 Salzburg
After breakfast you will drive to Salzburg, and enjoy a walking tour of the city in the company of a Local Guide. On this 'Sound of Music' themed tour, you'll see some of the movie's historic sights and filming locations, including Leopoldskron Palace, Frohnburg Palace and the impressive Mirabell Palace Gardens. Lunch is included in a restaurant and afterwards you are free to explore further at your own pace, before continuing to your hotel in St Georgen. You will stay here for the next five nights and dinner is served in the hotel restaurant this evening.
Day 4 Berchtesgaden & Lake Königssee
Today you will visit the picturesque Bavarian market town of Berchtesgaden and nearby Lake Königssee, or King's Lake. Surrounded by spectacular mountain scenery, you'll take cruise on the emerald-green waters of the lake to St Bartholomä Peninsula, where an ancient Baroque-style church is topped by two red-onion domes.Meals included: B,D
Day 5 Salzkammergut & Chocolate Workshop
You'll want to have your camera at the ready for today's scenic drive through the Salzkammergut, the Austrian Lake District. You'll see some of the area's prettiest spots, including Lake Mondsee, where the beautiful twin-towered church was the setting for the wedding scene in 'The Sound of Music'. You'll also visit the picturesque village of St Gilgen on the shores of Lake Wolfgang, where you'll learn how the well-known Mozartkugeln chocolates are produced and have a chance to make one of your very own. A cruise across the lake takes you to picturesque St Wolfgang and from here you'll travel to Lake Traunsee, the deepest in Austria.
Day 6 Bad Ischl & Hallstatt
Today you'll visit the spa town of Bad Ischl and take a tour of the 'Kaiservilla', the elegant summer residence of Emperor Franz Josef. It was here where he signed the declaration of war on Serbia, which led to the start of World War I. Next you'll continue to the beautiful lakeside village of Hallstatt, which is famous for its salt mines.Meals included: B,D
Day 7 Hohenwerfen Fortress
You'll travel to the mighty Hohenwerfen Fortress today, which is perched on a hill above the Salzachtal Valley. You'll recognise it from the film 'Where Eagles Dare' and, during your tour, you'll discover more about medieval life in the castle and admire amazing views of the surrounding scenery. The castle is also home to Austria's first falconry museum, where you can learn about birds of prey.Meals included: B,D
Day 8 Munich - UK
Today you'll transfer to the airport for your flight back to the UK.
