My wife and I joined the Taj, Tigers, Temples & Rajasthan’s Palaces tour, flying from London Heathrow. When we arrived in Delhi, it was easy to spot the rest of the group, and from that moment the adventure really began. There were 23 of us in total, a great mix of travellers including a few first-timers and several returning Travelsphere guests.
India is an incredible place and the tour packed so much into 15 days. Delhi was an exciting introduction – busy, vibrant and full of life. The rickshaw ride through the old streets was a real thrill, and it felt like every day brought a new “wow” moment.
One of the most memorable experiences was visiting Amritsar and the Golden Temple. Seeing it illuminated at night during the ceremony was breathtaking, and returning the next day to learn more about the Sikh religion made it even more special. We also visited the kitchens, where volunteers prepare meals for thousands of people every day – all free and supported by donations. The scale of it was amazing.
Of course, seeing the Taj Mahal at sunrise was unforgettable. Walking through the gates as the light gradually revealed the marble details was something I’ll never forget. Photos don’t do it justice you really have to see it up close to appreciate the intricate craftsmanship.
Another highlight was the safari in Ranthambore National Park. We were lucky enough to spot a tiger cooling off in the water during our afternoon safari. Seeing such a magnificent animal in the wild was a real thrill.
The tour also offered wonderful cultural experiences. We visited a local family for a cooking demonstration, learning about spices and helping prepare traditional dishes. There were also visits to villages where we saw pottery being made and learned about local traditions.
The hotels throughout the trip were excellent, especially the more traditional properties with real character. Staying in places with beautiful grounds and historic architecture made the experience even more special.
India can be a bit of a culture shock at first, but that’s part of its charm. This tour gives you a fantastic introduction to the country, its history and its people. There’s so much to see and learn, and I came home with memories that will stay with me forever.
