Itinerary

Depart on your scheduled flight to Shanghai today.
You will arrive in Shanghai today, where you will be met by your Local Guide and transferred to your hotel, where a three-night stay has been arranged. Please note that dinner will be your first included meal today.

This evening why not join our optional excursion to experience this vibrant port by night.
Shanghai is an exciting city and we include a guided tour today. Highlights will be the thronging shopping thoroughfare of Nanjing Road, the traditional Old Town, with its ancient Wu Xing Ting Teahouse, and the classic Yu Yuan Gardens. You will also visit the beautiful Jade Buddha Temple and stroll along the Bund, the city’s famous riverside boulevard, which is lined with magnificent former colonial buildings.

Enjoy an included acrobatic show
this evening.
After breakfast join our included full-day tour of Suzhou, which is situated on China’s historic Grand Canal. At its heart this beautiful 2,500-year-old city is famous for its landscaped gardens, narrow channels and traditional Chinese architecture. Many of the sites of the famous gardens of Suzhou, which date back as far as the 10th century, are still intact and some have been restored to their former glory, with a few listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

As you wander around, you’ll see narrow canals with cobblestone walks where rickety wooden houses lean against each other. Further highlights include the Lingering Garden or the Humble Administrator’s Garden, visits to the Institute of Silk Embroidery (Suzhou has been famous for its silk products since the days of Marco Polo), plus a canal cruise. After the tour you’ll return to Shanghai.
This morning you’ll transfer to the airport for a flight to Wuhan. From here you’ll travel by high-speed train to Yichang where you’ll board your cruise ship and set sail on a 4-night Yangtze cruise.
Your ship is one of the American Victoria Fleet of vessels which offer a stylish and comfortable cruising experience. You will cruise to the Three Gorges Dam, where you will pass through the locks. Your ship will then proceed upstream through Xiling Gorge, before continuing through the Wuxia and Qutang Gorges.
This morning you’ll disembark your ship before visiting Chongqing’s Eerling Park and Qicikou Old Town, you will continue by high-speed train to Chengdu.
This morning you will visit the Chengdu Panda Breeding Research Centre, where you can view these endangered creatures. In the afternoon, you can explore bustling Jinli Street, where you can sample local delicacies, enjoy a cup of jasmine tea at a local park and visit traditional tea houses and silk workshops.

This evening attend an optional Face Changing show.
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight to Xian. On arrival, visit the Han Tombs and Xian City Wall before you transfer to your hotel, where you will stay for two nights.
Xian, the ‘City of Eternal Peace’, was once the flourishing capital of China.During today’s included excursion you will see the remarkable Terracotta Army at Li Shan Mountain. Discovered in the 1970s by farmers digging a well, this staggering collection of at least 6,000 life-size terracotta figures representing the Imperial Guard were interred in 200 BC with the first Qin emperor. They are grouped in battle order, rank by rank, some mounted on horse-drawn chariots, others armed with spears, swords and crossbows in a display of Chinese military power. You also visit the Small Wild Goose Pagoda.

This evening you will be served a special dumpling dinner and later you may choose to join our optional excursion to a Tang Dynasty folklore show.
Today starts with a flight to Beijing. Daily life in Beijing, a city of bustling street markets and food stalls, crowded buses and friendly people, is a truly spellbinding sight. You’ll see ancient temples and exquisite palaces standing proudly beside vast 20th century civic buildings created by Chairman Mao and his people. The most modern architecture is the iconic Olympic buildings - these include the National Aquatics Centre, better known as the Water Cube, and the National Stadium, or the Bird’s Nest. You’ll visit the Temple of Heaven and visit the magnificent Summer Palace, the largest and best preserved imperial garden in China. Enjoy a boat ride on Kunming Lake.

Later you have the chance to round off your day with an optional Kong Fu show.
This morning we include a visit to the Great Wall at Badaling. Here you will have plenty of time to both admire this amazing structure as well as take a walk along the historic ramparts. Lunch is followed by a visit to the Sacred Way (Avenue of Statues). The path, which is slightly curved to fool evil spirits, is lined on either side with willows and carved stone statues.

This evening we include an excursion to a Night Food Market. Located in the heart of Beijing, you’ll find many culinary delicacies here. Be adventurous and try the more exotic snacks, such as silk worms or scorpions, or play it safe with dumplings or noodles, there’s plenty of choice if you’re still peckish after dinner.
Today we include a visit to Tiananmen Square, bordered by the Qianmen Gate, the Great Hall of the People and the Gate of Heavenly Peace. You will go through the gate, which forms the entrance to the incredible Forbidden City, to admire the magnificent buildings that house the Imperial Palace.

Later, why not opt to take a Hutong rickshaw ride around the old town.
Today you’ll transfer to the airport for your flight back to the UK.

This is a great night out in Xian and listed as one of the top 10 of things to do, The Tang Dynasty Show you are going to see is performed by Shaanxi Song & Dance Troupe which has a world renowned reputation, and is also the largest performing group in western China. The young performers are highly gifted and have been training in the arts since 1982.

Watch Chinese music and dance that originated in the Tang Dynasty (618 – 907), this in turn gives you an insight into the ancient, rich and prosperous life style of the era. Considered the golden age of Chinese culture, this evening’s show of Tang folklore takes place with performers who are distinguished by their costumes of splendid extravagance and colours. The show begins with an ancient Chinese musical instrument ensemble and then later the cultural dance segment begins. A truly spectacular event.

Evening show – Minimal Walking – Must See

Beijing Hutongs and Rickshaw

Beijing Hutongs and Rickshaw

from £19

We visit the Hutongs, which are the narrow streets or alleys of Beijing; these form the early traditional residential areas of Beijing. The Hutongs are alleys formed by lines of siheyuan, namely a traditional courtyard. The neighbourhoods were formed by joining one siheyuan to another to form a Hutong. The number of Hutongs in the city peaked in the 50’s at around 6000. Today, however, there’s considerably less. During our time in the Hutongs, you will visit local families to see how these traditional Beijingers still live, despite of the modern cosmopolitan city which surrounds them

Minimal Walking - Cultural - Highly recommended
