HIDE FULL ITINERARY

Day 1 UK/New York

Fly to New York today, and on arrival we'll transfer you to your hotel. You can start your discoveries of this 24-hour city on our included trip this evening to the One World Trade Center. Here, we'll head up to the 102nd floor, where you can take in breathtaking 360-degree views from the One World Observatory. You won't know which way to look as one by one you spot such iconic landmarks as the Empire State Building, the Brooklyn Bridge and the Statue of Liberty dazzlingly lit against the night sky.

Day 2 New York

You've seen many of New York's world-famous sights from up on high, and now it's time to explore at ground level. An expert Local Guide will take you on a tour which introduces you to some of the most iconic landmarks of anywhere in the world. Tick off the Empire State Building, the theatre district of Broadway, the stunning Chrysler Building with its Art Deco façade, Wall Street and the One World Trade Center. You'll also discover Times Square – the beating heart of this buzzing metropolis.
With the rest of the day at leisure, you can choose what you see and do next. You might visit one of the museums or the high-end shops around Fifth Avenue, or maybe you'll stroll across the Brooklyn Bridge. Central Park is another fantastic option if you want to stretch your legs, although a horse-and-carriage ride is a really relaxing way to discover 'New York's backyard'.

Day 3 New York

You've a free day to spend in New York as you wish. You could visit the High Line – a lovely park that has been created on an elevated disused railway line. This mile-long haven gives you the chance to take a step back and take in the city's sights in peace.
If you want to add to your New York experiences, you're sure to be tempted by our optional excursion. You'll take a ferry to Liberty Island, where you can admire at close hand the iconic Statue of Liberty. You'll then visit Ellis Island, where the National Immigration Museum tells the story of the 12 million immigrants who arrived here from 1892 to 1954 in search of a better life, with 'Lady Liberty' one of their first sights.

Day 4 Boston

Today you'll leave New York behind and head to Boston, one of the east coast's finest cities and one of the oldest settlements in America. En route to your hotel, we'll make a stop at the John F Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum, which overlooks Boston Harbor. Here you can immerse yourself the life and times of the political leader from his election in 1961 and his handling of the Cuban Missile Crisis to his assassination in 1963.

Day 5 Boston

At one time, Boston was a hotbed of revolutionary activity, perhaps the most famous act being the Boston Tea Party. These days, it's a modern, cosmopolitan city that takes pride in its past, preserving it for future generations. On a tour with a Local Guide you'll discover the highlights of the Freedom Trail and significant landmarks of the American Revolution. You'll stroll through the historic streets of Beacon Hill and head to Cambridge, home to Harvard University, before the tour ends at Quincy Market. This shoppers' paradise is also home to a huge array of restaurants serving all kinds of cuisine, so why not stop for lunch. Lobster rolls, clam chowder and Boston cream pie are all on the menu.
Enjoy the rest of the afternoon here, exploring at your leisure, or why not join an optional excursion to Fenway Park. This is the home of the famous Boston Red Sox baseball team, and a tour of the stadium is highly recommended.

Day 6 Embark the MS Veendam

Today we'll transfer you to your cruise ship, the MS Veendam, your floating hotel for the next seven nights. Settle into your cabin before setting sail for Maine, in New England, late this afternoon.

Day 7 Bar Harbor, Maine

Your first port of call is the quintessential New England coastal town of Bar Harbor, where you can step ashore to discover picturesque streets lined with boutiques and restaurants. Perhaps you'll decide to treat yourself to a lobster lunch served up with gorgeous sea views, or sample a scoop or two of home-made ice cream – another speciality of the town.
If you want to join an optional excursion, you'll have plenty of choice. Take a cruise around the islands surrounding the town, with the chance to spot spectacular wildlife, including whales, depending on the season. Or perhaps you'll head into the magnificent Acadia National Park. Take in views of Cadillac Mountain – the tallest on the eastern coast of America – or maybe take a bicycle tour or even a horse-and-carriage ride to see its lovely lakes and stunning coastline.
Back on board, your ship now makes its way to Canada.

Day 8 Halifax, Nova Scotia

The ship arrives at Halifax today. Located on a rocky inlet in the Atlantic Ocean, this is the capital of Nova Scotia. Ashore you'll discover many nautical-themed museums, fortresses that once guarded the harbour and an eclectic mix of shops and pubs. The historic Halifax waterfront was the gateway to Canada for more than one million immigrants, and you can see where the steamships would have anchored on an optional guided walking tour.
Or maybe you'll choose to visit Peggy's Cove, a pretty fishing village replete with picture-postcard lighthouse set on a rocky outcrop.

Day 9 Sydney, Nova Scotia

Linked to Nova Scotia by a causeway is Cape Breton Island, and today you can discover the highlights of Sydney, its largest city. The highlights begin immediately at its scenic harbour, where you can shop for local crafts and view the world's largest fiddle, which celebrates the musical talent on the island. Further inland you'll find historic houses dating back to the 1700s and galleries where you can meet the artists whose work is on show.
Optional excursions today include the chance to take a scenic drive along the Cabot Trail, which winds along the stunning coast. Or maybe head off on a hike in Cape Breton Highlands National Park, where the mountains meet the sea and panoramic views stretch as far as the eye can see.

Day 10 Prince Edward Island

You can set foot on Canada's smallest province today, Prince Edward Island, where lush valleys and stunning seascapes are a feast for the eyes. Its capital, Charlottetown, displays an impressive array of Victorian houses, and nearby you can visit Prince Edward Island National Park, which is home to stunning white-sand beaches. The author Lucy Maud Montgomery, who penned 'Anne of Green Gables', was born on the island, and you can choose to see the house and farm that inspired her. Another option today is a lighthouse tour – the coastline is dotted with them, and they come in all shapes and sizes and offer spectacular views.

Day 11 Cruising the Gulf of St Lawrence

There's plenty of time to relax and enjoy the ship's facilities during a day at sea as we cruise the Gulf of St Lawrence. Fed by the Great Lakes, this is the world's largest estuary, and it fringes the shores of half of Canada's 10 provinces, so expect great views.

Day 12 Quebec City

You can set foot on dry land once more today on arrival at Quebec City. Steeped in history, it was founded before the pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock and is the only city north of Mexico whose original fortifications are perfectly preserved. You can discover this walled city on an optional tour on foot, by bus or even by bicycle. Highlights include the Old Town, the cathedral, Château Frontenac, the star-shaped Citadelle and the historic Plains of Abraham battle site.

Day 13 Montreal/UK

We arrive in Montreal this morning, where you'll disembark the ship. A Local Guide will meet you and take you on a tour of its highlights, including Mount Royal, the three-peaked hill which gives the city its name. Later, we'll transfer you to the airport for your flight home.

Day 14 UK

You'll arrive back in the UK today.
