Your Itinerary

HIDE FULL ITINERARY

Day 1 UK - Boston

Arrive in the historic city of Boston and transfer to your hotel, where you'll meet your companions in the evening for a welcome drink.

Day 2 Boston - North Conway

Today we head to the coastal town of Kennebunkport. Historically a hub for shipbuilding, the town still has many beautiful mansions that were built by workers in the trade. We'll then head along the beautiful New England coastline to Cape Elizabeth, where we will stop at Portland Head Light, Maine's oldest lighthouse – a popular spot for photographing a seascape. From here, we travel on to Ogunquit (which means 'beautiful place by the sea' in the indigenous Abenaki language), a classic New England seaside town with a picturesque harbour and painted clapboard houses. Enjoy the fresh air on a breezy coastal walk that ends at Perkins Cove, a fishing cove filled with seafood restaurants and lobster shacks.

Day 3 Mount Washington Cog Railway

Get your cameras at the ready as today we jump on board the Mount Washington Cog Railway. The 150-year-old railway carries tourists to the summit of Mount Washington. One of the steepest railways in the world, it's one of the real highlights of the holiday. The vistas as you ascend to a dizzying 6,288 feet are truly incredible – on a clear day, you can see as far as Canada. There's time at the top to look around and take in the magnificent views before beginning the equally thrilling descent.

Day 4 North Conway Notch Train

Today we'll enjoy another classic train journey on one of the world's top scenic railroads. Completed in 1872, the North Conway Scenic Railroad travels through the spectacular landscape of the White Mountain National Forest. The atmospheric journey in vintage passenger cars takes you over dramatic trestle bridges, through river valleys and gorges to Crawford Notch, a stunning mountain pass. A highlight of this trip is riding over Frankenstein Trestle, a wrought-iron trestle bridge built in 1875 and a genuine feat of engineering.

Day 5 Salem - Cape Cod

We leave the mountains behind as travel to Salem, a port town with a rich history and notorious as the location of the Salem Witch Trials of 1693. There's plenty to see and do in the town whether your interest lies in ships or spells. Visit the 1692 Salem Witch Museum, which chronicles the history of the famous witch trials, or have a stroll around Pickering Wharf, the town's pretty waterfront. In the late afternoon, it's onwards to wild Cape Cod.

Day 6 Cape Cod - Martha's Vineyard

With its non-commercial vibe, unspoilt green spaces and pristine sandy beaches, it's no wonder Martha's Vineyard is the chosen holiday retreat of celebrities and presidents. With the whole day on the island, you'll have plenty of time to walk, relax at a beach, or discover the island's towns, which include exclusive Edgartown and Oak Bluffs (famed for its quirky gingerbread cottages). Don't miss the view from the serene clay cliffs of Aquinnah. You can also simply relax with a lobster roll and an ice cream and enjoy this quiet, sunny location.

Day 7 Cape Cod

We'll spend today on the wild Cape Cod Peninsula. We'll stop in the town of Chatham, where you can visit the local art galleries and shops. If you wish, you can enjoy lunch at the remote tip of Cape Cod and visit Provincetown, where the Mayflower pilgrims first landed. Today, the town is a haven for artists and has one of the oldest artist communities in America. In the evening, it's time to grab some lobster crackers as we tackle a traditional New England lobster bake.

Day 8 Cape Cod - Boston

We leave Cape Cod for Plymouth, where we'll take a tour of the Wampanoag Indian Campsite and Plimoth Plantation, a living history museum telling the story of the early colony of Plymouth. Our final stop is leafy Boston, one of America's oldest cities. Boston is known for its place at the forefront of American history, and we'll learn all about it as we walk the Freedom Trail, which traces the story of the American Revolution, with a Local Guide. We'll also have a look round Cambridge, home to MIT and Harvard University.

Day 9 Boston - UK

Today you'll transfer to the airport for the return flight to the UK.

Day 10 UK

You'll arrive back in the UK this morning.
