South Korea - Touring Holidays

An escorted tour of South Korea is the perfect way to explore a country where vibrant cities go hand in hand with stunning landscapes and ancient traditions.

Glittering cities

Emerging from the devastation of the Korean War, South Korea has embraced every aspect of 21st century living. Nowhere is this more evident than in its non-stop capital Seoul. Hi-tech and neon-lit, the city promises bustling markets and glamourous boutiques, ancient sites and historic temples.  During your visit you’ll want to explore the beautiful royal palaces of Gyeongbokgung and Changdeokgung, before searching for bargains at the enormous Dongdaemun and Namdaemun markets.

South Korea’s second-largest city is Busan, a seaside port which houses the country’s largest fish market and some spectacular sweeping beaches.

Ancient sites

The city of Gyeongju was once the capital of the Silla kingdom and to this day, ancient treasures, tombs and temples await at every turn.  You can discover more about the history of this remarkable city at the Gyeongju National Museum, where exhibits include weapons, jewellery and other ceremonial items from the Silla period.

The UNESCO-listed Haeinsa Temple is one of South Korea’s most famous. Surrounded by stunning mountain scenery, it houses the Tripitaka Koreana, an ancient collection of Buddhist scriptures that date from the 13th century and are engraved on wooden blocks.

Stunning landscapes

As you journey around South Korea, you’ll encounter some of the most spectacular scenery on the planet. Forest-clad mountains and national parks dominate the interior and thousands of remote islands are speckled along the coastline.

The largest of these islands is Jeju, a volcanic outcrop with many unforgettable highlights. You can hike to the top of Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak – the crater of an extinct volcano which offers sensational views at sunrise – marvel at the 100 metre deep Sangumburi crater or visit Manjanggul Cave, one of the most impressive lava tunnels in the world. Then when you’ve finished exploring, Jeju boasts some fabulous sandy beaches, perfect if you want to sit back and relax.
