South Africa - Touring Holidays
An escorted tour to South Africa is filled with unique and enchanting experiences.
An enticing combination of stunning natural scenery, pristine beaches, exotic wildlife and must-see attractions will make your time here unforgettable.
The Rainbow Nation
A divided nation for many years, the ‘Rainbow Nation’, a term coined by apartheid activist Archbishop Desmond Tutu after the system was banned in 1994, welcomed its first black president that year – Nelson Mandela. A voracious fighter for racial equality, the Nobel Peace Prize-winner had been imprisoned for 27 years because of his beliefs and is now considered one of South Africa’s greatest leaders. Visitors to South Africa may visit Robben Island, where Mr Mandela was held captive in a tiny cell of just five square metres and took what he bravely called his ‘Long Walk to Freedom’.
Beautiful Cape Town
This fascinating museum, a poignant reminder of the price paid for democracy, is situated in Cape Town, one of the most beautiful cities in the world, which boasts a stunning and dramatic backdrop in the form of Table Mountain. Cape Town is also home to the beautiful Kirstenbosch gardens, which showcase and preserve flora indigenous to South Africa and attract a great variety of wild birds which in turn lure birdwatchers from all over the world.
From Cape Town, visitors can easily access Boulders Beach, famed for its delightful penguin population, as well as the Constantia Wine Route - eight estates which produce distinctive award-winning wines. In fact South Africa’s renowned Winelands, situated east of Cape Town, encompass several regions, therefore a wine tour is a must when on holiday in South Africa.
A relaxing drive along the famous Garden Route will reward you with wonderful views of South Africa’s most beautiful stretches of coastline, where mountains reach up into the sky and beaches and bays blend into the sparkling ocean.
A change of pace on your South African holiday comes in the shape of an exciting safari, where you’ll seek to spot the ‘Big Five’ – rhino, elephant, leopard, lion and buffalo – as well as many other species on game drives in reserves such as the world-famous Kruger National Park.
Back on the coast, you’ll discover that South Africa is one of the best destinations in the world for watching marine mammals such as southern right and humpback whales, enormous pods of dolphins and, occasionally, killer whales. Southern right whales migrate from their Antarctica feeding grounds and head to warmer climates, arriving in South Africa around June. Whether you climb aboard a boat or watch from the land, spectacular views of these giant creatures are far from rare.
Every Travelsphere holiday offers exceptional value for money. Included in the price are return scheduled flights/rail travel and internal flights, where applicable, overseas transfers and transportation, carefully chosen hotels, many meals and excursions and the services of a Travelsphere Tour Manager or Local Guide.
