Alaska

A cruise really is the most rewarding way to experience this breathtaking part of the world. Set sail from Vancouver or Seattle and relax as your ship navigates through narrow channels and myriad islands as it traces its way northwards along the southeast coast of Alaska – known as the Inside Passage. A cornucopia of scenic and natural delights await, and you’ll have plenty of time to see the very best as you glide serenely past fjords, glaciers, forests and historic waterside communities.

With Holland America Line, you’ll have the opportunity to get right to the heart of these remarkable places. A range of optional excursions is available, offering you a host of unique experiences. Try a floatplane flight over the awe-inspiring Misty Fjords, take a scenic cruise around the Glacier Bay National Park, discover the way of life of the native Alaskan people and much more. Your ship for this marvellous cruise is Holland America Line’s Zuiderdam. This graceful vessel boasts fantastic service and great facilities, in keeping with the splendour of Alaska itself. On board you’ll find a great choice of restaurants, including the two-tier Vista Dining Room and the upscale Pinnacle Grill, which offers elegant dining and wonderful cuisine. There’s even a Culinary Arts Centre, which provides demonstrations and cookery classes. Relax in the Greenhouse Spa & Salon, enjoy sparkling entertainment in the show lounge and much more.

 

Itinerary

DAY 1 - Vancouver
The morning will be free in Vancouver before an afternoon transfer to join one of Holland America Line’s magnificent ships in Vancouver harbour. The ship will leave at 5.00pm.

DAY 2 - Cruising
Your cruise has begun and ahead lie days of luxurious relaxation – and exploration – as your ship traces the outline of North America’s most scenic coastal landscape. As you cruise the Inside Passage for the first time, keep a watchful eye open for breaching whales, soaring eagles, shoreline grizzlies and inquisitive seals. This is a natural playground for wildlife.

DAY 3 - Tracy Arm Fjord
This morning cruise the dramatic Tracy Arm Fjord and Sawyer Glacier (weather permitting).

Juneau: Arrive 1400 ~ Depart 2230
Explore Alaska’s capital, or perhaps visit the mighty Mendenhall Glacier.

DAY 4 - Skagway
Arrive 0700 ~ Depart 2100
Skagway is a lively relic of the famous Klondike Gold Rush of 1898. Wooden sidewalks and turn-of-the century buildings depict the riotous living of those days.

DAY 5 - Glacier Bay National Park
Arrive 0700 ~ Depart 1600
Glacier Bay will be the scenic highlight of your cruise. Great ice castles float serenely in radiant blue-green water. And, as a glacier calves and thousands of tons of ice crash into the mirror-calm water, so a sound like thunder echoes across the bay.

DAY 6 - Ketchikan
Arrive 1000 ~ Depart 1800
Ketchikan is a quaint weathered town clinging to the mountainside. You may wish to take a seaplane flight over the spectacular Misty Fjords, explore the Totem Poles Park or simply enjoy a lunch of fresh Alaskan salmon.

DAY 7 - Inside Passage
As you cruise the Inside Passage back towards Vancouver, the scenic splendours continue to unroll before you, a wonderland of ice and rock, forest and river, which will remain in your memory – and photo album – for a long time to come.

DAY 8 - Vancouver/UK
Morning arrival in Vancouver followed by transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK.

DAY 9 - UK
Arrival in the UK.
