DAY 1 - Inverness
Make your own way to Inverness and join the coach for your transfer to the MV Lord of the Glens. Please see transfer times opposite. This evening the captain and crew welcome us at a reception and dinner.
DAY 2 - Aviemore & Loch Ness
Today you will drive to Aviemore for a scenic trip aboard the Highland Cairngorm Funicular Railway, which is the highest mountain railway in the UK. This afternoon set sail for the picturesque town of Fort Augustus via Loch Dochfour and Loch Ness, pausing for a photo opportunity in front of the beautiful Urquhart Castle. Perched in a privileged position overlooking the waters that surround it on three sides, the castle has had quite a turbulent history. Who knows – you may even catch a glimpse of the legendary Loch Ness Monster sheltering in the murky water!
DAY 3 - The Caledonian Canal & Banavie
Your day begins with a visit to the Loch Ness visitor centre before boarding the Lord of the Glens once more in order to ascend the flight of six locks that run through the centre of Fort Augustus at the start of the Caledonian Canal. This is a magnificent feat of engineering, built by Thomas Telford in the early 1800s to link the sea at either end of the Great Glen Fault. From here we sail across beautiful Loch Oich and Loch Lochy to Banavie, a small town at the foot of Ben Nevis with spectacular scenery.
DAY 4 - Glencoe & Corpach
Your cruise today takes you to Fort William Whiskey Distillery, where you can perhaps take a dram, and the hauntingly beautiful Glencoe. One of Scotland’s most famous, and arguably most stunning glens, Glencoe is a walkers’ paradise with peaks rising majestically at every turn. Later you will descend Neptune’s Staircase, a series of eight inter-connected locks, to sea level at Corpach, the port for Fort William. Enjoy the Captain’s farewell reception and dinner this evening. Moor in Fort William overnight.
DAY 5 - Inverness
Disembark Lord of the Glens after breakfast. Take the included transfers to Inverness airport and railway station, then make your own way home.
