DAY 1 UK/Amsterdam
By air: Fly from a choice of airports to Amsterdam.
By rail: Eurostar from London St Pancras to Brussels. Transfer by coach to Amsterdam to board Serenade I.
DAY 2 Amsterdam
The morning is free to take in the city - perhaps Anne Frank’s house; the treasures of the Rijksmuseum or the Van Gogh museum. Alternatively, there’s an optional sightseeing tour around this vibrant city. The Serenade I departs at lunchtime, cruising gently towards Cologne.
DAY 3 Cologne & Bonn
Spend the afternoon in the delightful and strategically positioned city of Cologne. Its prosperity is evident in the fine buildings and magnificent cathedral, whose soaring spires were once the tallest structures in the world. an optional city tour is available. As the sun sets, we head upstream to Bonn where we moor overnight. Perhaps enjoy a stroll around this delightful town this evening?
DAY 4 Rhine Gorge & Rudesheim
Get to know the history-steeped Rhine Gorge. Abundant vineyards, pretty villages and imposing castles make this one of Europe’s most stunning riverscapes. Later, arrive at the pretty wine town of Rudesheim where you can sample some of the delicious Rhine wines in a local tavern. There is an optional trip to Siegfried’s Mechanical Music Museum.
DAY 5 Cochem
We cruise through the moselle valley, passing through this gentle wine-growing region, to the beautiful town of Cochem. Enjoy a stroll around the pretty old town or visit the mighty Reichsburg Castle that towers above this picturesque town, before arriving in the little wine village of Alken later this evening. We dock here for the night.
DAY 6 Koblenz & Dusseldorf
Depart Alken before breakfast cruising to Koblenz, where we spend the morning amidst the towns’ ancient roman walls and beautifully restored old Quarter. at lunchtime we cruise back to the rhine and the vibrant city of dusseldorf for the night.
DAY 7 Arnhem
Back into Holland and the delightful town of Arnhem by the early afternoon, and a chance to visit the town’s museum. Discover the history of the John Frost bridge, named after the British commander who defended it for four days in World War II. Join an optional trip to the battlefields near Arnhem. Tonight there is a farewell gala dinner on board with music.
DAY 8 Amsterdam/UK
Arrive in Amsterdam in the early hours.
By air: Disembark and transfer to Amsterdam airport for the flight home.
By rail: Coach transfer to brussels and onto the eurostar bound for london st Pancras.
