Accommodation

In Munich, you will stay in the four star Holiday Inn Munich City Centre. This comfortable hotel is situated in the heart of the city and within easy walking distance of many of the main sights. Hotel facilities include a lift, swimming pool, fitness centre, restaurant and bar. All guest rooms are modern with private facilities, air-conditioning, satellite TV, internet access and minibar.

Accommodation in Oberammergau will be in a guesthouse (category GC1), either in Oberammergau village itself or nearby.

Itinerary

DAY 1
Depart on your scheduled flight to Munich. Upon arrival, transfer to your city centre hotel for a three night stay.

DAY 2
A panoramic city tour of Munich is included today. Highlights include the mediaeval gates, the huge fortress and palace known as the Residenz built by Munich’s great ruling family, the Wittelbachs; the Marienplatz market square, the neighbouring Viktualienmarkt and colourful Gothic-style Old Town Hall. The Englischer Garten is one of the world’s largest gardens and the royal avenue Maximilianstrasse is worth seeing, named after King Maximilian II of Bavaria. This afternoon is at leisure to discover more of this exciting city.

DAY 3
Today’s optional excursion takes us to the largest of Bavaria’s lakes, Chiemsee, bordered by imposing mountains. The Ache and Prien rivers flow into the lake and three islands combine to make this part of Bavaria one of the most picturesque. A boat ride to the island of Herreninsel takes you to the palace of Herrenchiemsee, built for King Ludwig, and modelled on the Palace of Versailles.

DAY 4
We leave Munich today, and take a scenic drive into the Ammergauer Alps to the charming village of Oberammergau. After a three-course included lunch, we take our seats at the Passion Play. There is a break for dinner, when we enjoy an included three-course meal, and then the play resumes and continues into the evening.

DAY 5
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK.
