Accommodation

Your accommodation for the Passion Play will be in a first class hotel in Oberammergau itself or the surrounding area (category HC1). In Kitzbühel, you will stay at the four-star Hotel Tiefenbrunner, centrally located in the old town. Amenities include three restaurants, a bar and spa with swimming pool. All guest rooms feature private facilities, TV, minibar, safe and hairdryer. The hotel has a lift.

Itinerary

DAY 1
Depart on your scheduled flight to Munich. On arrival transfer to your hotel in the Oberammergau area for a two night stay.

DAY 2
Free in Oberammergau this morning. Perhaps take a look inside the Oberammergau Museum (entrance included). After lunch (included), take your seat in the audience for the Passion Play. There is an interval for dinner, during which a three-course meal will be served. The play resumes after dinner, continuing into the evening.

DAY 3
Leave delightful Oberammergau behind today as you head towards the Austrian border, stopping in the charming Tirolean capital of Innsbruck. Some of the city’s main sights include the Hofburg Palace, the Old Town Square and the famous Golden Roof, built for Emperor Maximilian I in the 15th century. You will then continue to the heart of the Austrian Tirol and the famous resort of Kitzbühel, where five nights’ accommodation has been arranged.

DAYS 4 – 7
Once a walled mediaeval settlement, Kitzbühel is now one of the prettiest of Europe’s mountain resorts. Relax and enjoy the next few days in this pretty Austrian resort. We include a walking tour of Kitzbühel and a range of optional excursions are available to choose from:

Achensee & Tratzberg Castle - On this full day excursion, you will visit the largest and most beautiful lake in the Tirol. The great mountains of the Karwendel and Rofan ranges rise dramatically from its shimmering waters. We continue to the 16th-century Tratzberg Castle, which sits majestically on a hillside overlooking the valley. Enjoy a fascinating tour of the magnificent timber construction that is the Royal Chamber, its ceiling held together without a single nail.

Salzburg - Enjoy our optional full day excursion to the enchanting city of Salzburg. Surrounded by forested mountains and dominated by the mighty Hohensalzburg Fortress. This is a city of palaces, fountains and splendid baroque buildings. We include a guided tour of the highlights, with free time to make your own discoveries. Visit Mozart’s birthplace and shop for local crafts and delicacies on the Getreidegasse, the lovely medieval main street, with its overhanging wrought-iron shop signs.

Berchtesgaden - This fascinating full day excursion takes you to Hitler’s mountain-top retreat, which is known as the Eagle’s Nest. You will take the special Post Bus up the mountain before entering the original brass-walled lift, which whisks you to the top for incredible views.

DAY 8
Transfer to Munich airport for your return flight to the UK.
