Walking Information

This Tour contains walks up to Grade 3 - Strenuous
Grade 1 - Easy
These are for anyone of any age. Plenty of rest stops and time to enjoy the local scenery with up to 4 hours walking a day, mostly on good paths but occasionally rough underfoot. Ascent less than 300m per day. Sturdy walking shoes are advisable.

Grade 2 - Moderate
These are moderate, for anyone who is comfortable walking hills. Still plenty of time to rest and enjoy the scenery, however up to 5 hours walking a day on slightly more rugged terrain. Ascent less than 500m per day. Walking boots with ankle support are recommended.

Grade 3 - Strenuous
These are quite strenuous, for the more accomplished hill walker. A larger number of continuous stretches of walking totalling about 5 hours a day, often in mountainous terrain where paths can be steep. Ascent up to 1000m per day. Walking boots with ankle support and trekking poles are recommended.

Accommodation

You will stay at the popular three star Complesso dei Fiori (Flower Complex), comprising the Hotels Narcis, Hedera and Mimosa, a short walk from the centre of Rabac and overlooking the white shingle beach on Maslinica Bay.

Facilities nclude lifts, two indoor and two outdoor swimming pools, gym, live music and entertainment, plus sauna, solarium and massage at extra charge. Indoor pools available low season only. The restaurant serves buffet breakfast including hot dishes and four course buffet dinner with local wine and soft drinks included (beer and spirits at extra cost). Open in high season, you can also eat à la carte in the Conca d’Oro restaurant and grill bar at an extra cost.

All bedrooms have private acilities, satellite TV and telephone. Standard rooms are at the rear of the hotel overlooking the access road. Front facing rooms with or without balcony available at a supplement, some have a view of the sea and most have views of the wimming pools or the attractive gardens.

Itinerary

Your base at Rabac on Maslinica Bay has been popular with visitors since the 19th century, drawn by the mild climate, friendly welcome and picturesque setting. It is an ideal starting point for walks to discover the truly beautiful landscape and historic sites of the Istrian Peninsula.

DAY 1: UK/Croatia
Depart on your flight to Rijeka or Ljubljana. On arrival transfer to your resort hotel for a seven night stay.

DAYS 2 TO 7: Croatia
Free to relax and enjoy our great range of included walks and excursions as follows:

Rabac Nature Walk - This delightful half day walk in the Karst area around Rabac is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy beautiful scenery and visit the charming villages of Kosi and Ripenda (approx. 4 hours’ walk).

Green Istria - This lovely full day walk takes us uphill to the village of Gondolici, then to the peak of Ostri, for superb views of the surrounding countryside. We then head to the pretty village of Skitaca, traditionally built from local stone and one of the highest villages in the area (approx. 5 hours’ walk). After an included lunch in a mountain hut, you are free to enjoy the views over Kvarner Bay or visit the Church of St. Lucia. We return to the hotel by coach.

Discover Labin - Today we take a half day walking tour to nearby Labin, a delightful medieval town with narrow streets and a selection of shops. Along the way we visit the Church of St. Hadrian and the village of Lovronci. We return to Rabac via a icturesque waterfall (approx. 4 hours’ walk).

Sisol Mountain - A challenging full day trip offering stunning views from the peak of Mount Sisol over Kvarner Bay. We travel by coach to Brsec, from where we follow the mountain path to the summit. On our descent we visit the town of Plomin, perched bove one of the most beautiful bays in Istria. Here you will enjoy an included traditional fish lunch (approx. 6 hours’ walk). Optional excursions

Opatija - A half day visit to this popular resort on Kvarner Bay. Its beautifully maintained gardens, fountains and lovely seven mile long coastal promenade known as the Lungomare form a stunning backdrop to the town’s villas, hotels, shops and cafés.

Island Cruise & Barbecue - A boat trip along the coast to the lovely island of Cres, where we drop anchor in a beautiful bay. This wonderful day out includes a barbecue lunch.
