New in 2010, MS Dionis has been constructed in the style of a traditional sailing ship, whilst also boasting modern facilities. The cabins are simple and comfortable with air-conditioning as well as private bathrooms. A small vessel with only 18 cabins and 5 crew members gives a cosy atmosphere, with a bar, small dining area and seating on the open deck.
This holiday is a gentle and relaxed sailing experience that will live long in the memory.
Itinerary
Day 1: UK/Dubrovnik
Depart on your flight to Dubrovnik. On arrival transfer to the boat, where we stay for the next seven nights as we cruise along the Dalmatian coast, visiting a selection of Croatia’s many islands. This afternoon/ evening, spend free time in Dubrovnik, known as the ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’. Wander around the wonderfully preserved old town with its maze of ramparts, narrow streets, hidden squares, museums and churches, visit the city walls and impressive cathedral, as well as the oldest pharmacy in Europe. Make sure you don’t miss taking a stroll along the famous Stradun (promenade) to the Rector’s Palace and the Franciscan Monastery. Overnight in Dubrovnik.
Meals: Dinner
Day 2: Dubrovnik
Today is free to spend more time discovering Dubrovnik. Alternatively, join our full-day optional excursion (by road) to the neighbouring country of Montenegro. With a stunning coastline studded by beautiful towns, Montenegro is a real gem. We pay a visit to the picturesque town of Kotor, on wonderful Kotor Bay, and also the attractive beaches of the Budva Riviera, one of the most beautiful areas of the Adriatic coast and home to the walled old town of Budva. This is the perfect place from where to indulge in a little shopping, sample the local wine and fish and enjoy a little people-watching from your seat in one of the friendly café-bars in the picturesque marina. The boat overnights in Dubrovnik.
Meals: Breakfast / dinner
Day 3: Dubrovnik to Mljet National Park
After breakfast, we begin our cruise as we journey to the island of Mljet, enjoying lunch on board. Almost three-quarters of the island is still covered with the dense forest that at one time typified the Mediterranean coast, giving us an insight into what the whole region used to look like. At the northern end of the island is the Mljet National Park, a protected area where you can spend the afternoon walking around the two saltwater lakes, surrounded by the stunning forests. Perhaps even take the opportunity to rent a bike to see more of the island, or why not hire a boat to explore the caves and rock formations that surround the shores of both lakes. Overnight in Polaca or Pomena.
Meals: Breakfast / lunch
Day 4: Mljet to Hvar
Early this morning we cruise to the small island of Scedro, where there will be ample time to relax in the clear waters that lap its beaches. With its two protected bays and mild climate, this historic island was once reserved as pasture land for grazing and also for growing crops. After lunch on board, we then set sail for Hvar. Make sure you’re on deck as you approach Hvar, the views of the island from the sea are simply stunning, and the island is equally stunning once you step on land. The longest island in the Adriatic, the main town, also called Hvar, has become one of Croatia’s most fashionable resorts amongst the rich and famous. This medieval town boasts a Renaissance cathedral with its original tower, and one of the oldest theatres in Europe. There’s also a thriving nightlife on Hvar, with bars and restaurants open well into the night.
Meals: Breakfast / lunch
Day 5: Hvar to Bol
Leaving Hvar this morning, we sail to the island of Brac, where we head to the town of Bol to relax on the beach at Zlatni Rat – the Golden Cape. Zlatni Rat is famous as a pebble beach promontory that visibly moves with the tide. If you are feeling fit, then why not take the two-hour walk to the top of Vivoda Gora, the highest point on the island, from where there are spectacular views along the Adriatic coastline. Overnight in the port of Bol.
Meals: Breakfast / dinner
Day 6: Bol to Korcula
Whilst we’re eating breakfast, the ship leaves Bol and cruises to the island of Korcula, which is reputed to be the birthplace of famous adventurer Marco Polo. On arrival in Korcula this afternoon, you will be free to make your own discoveries of the island. Take the opportunity to go swimming from one of the many beaches that surround the island, or you could even sample a glass or two of the locally produced wine. If you take a wander around Korcula town, you can’t help but notice the Venetian influence in the architecture.
Meals: Breakfast / lunch
Day 7: Korcula to the Elafiti Islands
Early this morning we continue our journey, sailing towards the Elafiti islands, west of Dubrovnik. Incredibly popular with tourists, just three of the islands are inhabited – Kolocep, Lopud and Šipan, which is the largest of the islands and where we berth overnight. During the day, we visit one of the smaller islands to swim in the crystal clear waters and enjoy lunch. This evening, enjoy a “Captain’s” dinner on board.
Meals: Breakfast / lunch / dinner
Day 8: Dubrovnik/UK
After breakfast disembark and transfer to Dubrovnik airport for your return flight to the UK.
