Itinerary
Day 1: UK/Austria
Transfer to the airport for your scheduled flight to Austria. Upon arrival in Austria, transfer to your hotel in Weyregg for a seven night stay.
Days 2 - 7: Austria
The next six days are yours to enjoy entirely at your own leisure. You can relax in your hotel, explore the surrounding area, or join our two optional excursions. There are also three excursions already included in your holiday.
Meals: Breakfast / dinner
Salzburg (included)
A full day tour to the ‘Sound of Music’ city. This is one of Europe’s best preserved historic cities, set amongst wonderful Alpine scenery. The centre has hardly changed since Mozart’s time; baroque domed churches, merchant houses and hidden arcaded courtyards are still dominated by the magnificent Hohensalzburg Fortress. Explore the old centre and discover Mozart’s Square, the magnificent Dom (cathedral) and the splendid Mirabell Gardens. If shopping is your passion, then a stroll along the narrow Getreidegasse is a must.
Hallstatt (included)
Photographers will get some terrific shots of the beautiful lakeside village of Hallstatt on this three-quarter day excursion. Hallstatt sits at the base of a mountain, and is famous for its salt mines, which have been producing the valuable commodity for thousands of years. Its pastel-painted houses seem to cling precariously to a narrow strip of land between the mountain and the lake, but its small size means that Hallstatt is easily explored on foot.
St. Wolfgang (included)
The pretty lakeside resort of St. Wolfgang is home to the famous ‘White Horse Inn’. Sat on the north shore of the Wolfgangsee and at the foot of Schafberg Mountain, St. Wolfgang is a relaxed, picturesque village of narrow streets lined with tall old buildings that have a riot of colour from the flowers on their balconies during the summer months. Make sure you visit the church during your time in St. Wolfgang – it boasts a spectacular Gothic altar that’s quite incongruous to the natural setting of the village.
Lakeland Tour (optional)
Boasting crystal clear lakes and stunning mountain scenery, the Austrian Lake District is a jaw-droppingly beautiful part of Europe. On this superb tour, you’ll visit some of the prettiest spots in the Salzkammergut (Lake District), such as Mondsee, where fans of ‘The Sound of Music’ film will recognise the church from the wedding scene. You’ll also visit St. Gilgen, on the shores of the Wolfgangsee, on this full day tour.
Southern Bohemia (Czech Republic; optional)
A superb full-day trip crossing the River Danube into the Czech Republic to visit the lovely old town of Cesky Krumlov. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, you can’t visit Cesky Krumlov without taking a walk through the narrow winding streets lined with 13th-century buildings to visit the Gothic church of St. Vitus and the historic castle up on the cliffs above the Vltava River. The castle boasts classic interiors that date back to the Renaissance.
Day 8: Austria/UK
Today we depart the hotel and transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK. We arrive in the UK later the same day.
